Winged Person (Gagaimget)

Photograph: Merle Toole Photograph: Steven Darby The legend of Gagaimget, as told to Marius Barbeau by George Campbell in 1924, is as follows:
"One member of our family went to the mountains with the family of Tengwox to hunt mountain goat at night. Sewimaxgana'o (meaning "the frog is placed one side") was the name of the member of our house who saw this human like being with wings sitting on top of the mountain. He did not shoot it because he was frightened of it. He went back and got the people that were with him and when they returned it was gone. We adopted it as a crest."
